Work Experience Program
Definitions
- Work-Based Learning is component of a course that is approved by Saskatchewan Learning to facilitate pupil learning. For the purpose of this policy, work-based learning opportunities include Practical and Applied Arts Work Study, Career and Work Exploration, and cooperative ventures that involve pupils in learning and working contexts.
- Work Study Pupils who use work-based learning to develop or refine skills specific to a particular area of study in a workplace setting.
Policy
- The Board supports the provision of work-based learning opportunities through the establishment of partnerships between schools and community agencies or businesses, when these opportunities align with curricular objectives.
- Subject to the policies and regulations established by the Board, Saskatchewan Learning, Saskatchewan Labour, The Workers’ Compensation Act, and with the prior approval of the Director or designated superintendent, schools may design a work-based learning curricular offering.
- The Board, in its Comprehensive Liability Insurance Policy, shall provide for the Board’s liability arising from injury to pupils and injury or damage caused by pupils participating in such placements.
- The principal shall ensure that pupils are monitored in the workplace in accordance with Saskatchewan Learning and school division administrative applications.
- The pupil, parents or guardians, teacher/monitor, and employer shall sign a four-party written agreement before commencement of any work-based learning program. Regulations (cont.)
- Parents/guardians shall sign a work-based learning consent form before commencement of any work-based learning program.
- The designated superintendent shall register all pupils involved in work-based learning programs with the office of the Regional Director, Saskatchewan Learning.
